Achievement

Tartu may still be a chilly place, but suddenly people have something to be happy about: last week Gert Kanter won the discus throw world championship for Estonia. Considering that Andrus Värnik won the javelin title last yeartwo years ago, and Erkki Nool's Sydney olympic gold medal in the decathelon, athletics are probably Estonia's second biggest source of international sporting pride, just behind uphill skiing.

In other news, an Estonian won a game design competition at the biggest computer gaming exhibition in the US last week. Full disclosure: I know the girl, and yeah, she's awesome. :)

You had a similar idea for a post, but don't forget the winter sports. Track and field ist forgooten for a while in that season in Estonia, or am I wrong?. Värnik in Helsinki was two years ago already. But ist was great, it was raining, terrible, you know what I mean when you ever tried it in competition or training. It is even dangerous then. But Värnik mastered it.
Uh, pc games? Is not all that bad though. But I will do another post for it.

The reason is, I easily get excited about javelin, a sports I am practising since decades. To see the Osaka games, Tero, Andrus and the others I was sitting on a toillet here in Korea. It is our new home. But we don't have tv. But a small screen with access to many channels is part of our apartment. But it is in the bathroom on that place.
